Driving to Bella Coola
Bella Coola is roughly a 5 – 6 hour drive from Williams Lake ( the closest large town).
Williams Lake (Hwy 97) is a good stopping place to fuel up & gather any supplies. About 4 hours on Hwy 20 is Nimpo Lake. Located just outside Tweedsmuir Park, Nimpo Lake is another good stopping place to fill the tank, stand up & stretch before the last leg. Nimpo Lake is known for it’s rental cabins that dot one side of the lake.
The Hill - Hwy 20, Tweedsmuir Provincial Park
Beyond Nimpo & just outside Anahim Lake (Hwy 20) is a remarkable section of highway that’s locally referred to as ‘The Hill‘. It’s a well maintained dirt road that has steep & narrow sections. During steep sections, it’s best to put the vehicle in a low gear & just go slow. Narrow sections are single lane so it’s a good idea to take note of the many pull-offs in case of oncoming traffic. Most people find ‘The Hill’ an exciting & scenic part of the trip.
